About

I'm Rachel. I like to write about my life, which is full of joy and love. Hence the title of my blog.
Things that bring me joy and love: music, family, work, play, travel, home, internet. It's all here, friends.

Sometimes being a music therapist can be really frustrating. Other times, it is incomprehensible that I get paid to do what I do. Like today, for example. I danced around with scarves to songs from High School Musical 2. I picked out the melody to “The Bare Necessities” on the piano because it is one of my students’ favorite songs. I wrote a song about camping. Yep, I definitely have the best job ever.
I’m using Kickstarter to raise funds to record, produce and distribute my original music for children with autism. Read all about it, and make a pledge if you are so inclined.
I wrote a song about it:
Hi there, I’m Rachel,
Thanks for stopping by.
I wrote this song and made this video
To explain the reasons why
You should make a pledge and be a part
Of this project that I hope to start
It’s called Listen & Learn and it’s for
A different kind of audience who needs more.
Autism presents itself
In more than one way,
It’s a disorder that affects how children learn,
And communicate and play.
But music is a bridge that can reach inside
It lets a child connect instead of hide
And thats why I do what I do,
Why I’m asking support from you.
Help me, help them
Give my gift of song.
Even if you pledge one dollar
You’ll move this project along.
I write the songs but I need a hand,
To follow through with my grander plan
Which is recording a CD
Just for them, and sung by me.
I wanted to reach out,
So I started a blog to share
My music and thoughts with the people
Who could benefit out there.
They said my songs were part of the solution
So I want to make a bigger contribution
So please, if you feel inclined,
I hope that you will find that you can.
I actually really like them, unlike most people. I feel like I have a fresh slate, that I have a chance to start over and do things better than I did them last week. I had a ridiculously lazy weekend, and as awesome as that was, I am ready to be a productive member of society.
Monday is my busiest day of the week. It’s perfect that way; the rest of the week is cake after today. My goals for July 13, 2009 are to put everything I’ve got into the 9 lessons/music therapy sessions scheduled for the day, take my dog for a walk, empty the dishwasher, do laundry, and record at least one song. If I can do all of that in one day, I can do anything…right?
