One of my best friends, Jill, and her husband Tyler, with their brand new baby boy! Luca Thomas Campo, born September 18, 2009.
Recognize the voice? I thought so :) ”False Memory” is just one of the many stunning tracks on which you can hear me, along with the genius of Joe Frawley and Greg Conte. Listen (and download!) the rest of Daughters of Industry by the Joe Frawley Ensemble HERE.
I could read this kind of stuff all day long. I only wish I’d have known when I was in college what I really wanted to do, and just went ahead and did it.
The best way to start is to start. Make realistic goals for yourself that allow you to play music or perform your skill, whatever it is you dream of doing. Create that playing music IS THE BIG TIME. You don’t need record sales or a million fans to be successful. Music is it’s own reward. I found solace in the coffee shops in San Diego. It was an actual place I could go to share my songs and celebrate music in my life while earning a few bucks on the side. Everything that’s happened since, every invite and acknowledgment is all based around the fun I created when I first walked into that café.
Remember: No one is going to hand you anything. In all businesses of the creative, you have to create it. Once you do that, others will see your passion and want to be a part of it. I promise. Just Be You.
Tonight I’m going to see Kelly Clarkson at the state fair, and I’m sooo excited!! However, my excitement is nothing compared to that of my dad, who is Kelly’s #1 fan. Should be a fun night!
Allison Weiss is awesome. Even though I don’t really condone posting videos while driving. While someone else is driving, yes. :D Looking forward to her tour videos.
I have to second the fact that Allison Weiss is awesome. I found her on the internet and now she’s everywhere I look. Seriously, this girl practically owns the internet. She is a totally DIY musician and is basically living the dream, getting famous and playing her songs all over the country.
This Jason Mraz CD - Live at Java Joes - is the reason I started playing the guitar. Way back in 2002, I heard “The Remedy” on the radio and immediately went out and bought Waiting For My Rocket to Come. I listened to those 12 songs on repeat that entire summer, and was still listening when I got back to school in August. A friend told me about Live at Java Joes, which I ordered and immediately fell in love with.
That CD was the soundtrack to my last semester of college. I wanted to be able to sing and play the way Jason Mraz did, even though I’d never picked up a guitar. My mom bought one for me as an early graduation present, and I haven’t stopped playing since.
I could talk a lot more about Jason Mraz and the influence he’s had on me as a musician. Or just on my life in general. And rest assured, I will.
Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List might be my new favorite show on TV. The episode where she hangs out with Paris Hilton is priceless - it makes me like Paris even more than I admittedly already did. I think we could be friends in real life.
